Animal Cards personality test
November 16, 2011
I all ready posted this on my own blog, but I wanted to post it here as well.
Please choose your favorite animal, 1 being most favorite, and 5 being the least. It’s best not to look past this line if you’re doing the test yourself until you’ve chosen your order.
———————————————–
Positions:
- Your present moment. (Moral law). This is what you are feeling or thinking subconsciously at the moment; things you truly believe in or think about.
- What your goal is right now (Heaven). Something you are looking forward to.
- What is grounding you right now (Earth). Who you really are, your true inner nature.
- Hopes. (The Commander). Your hopes and dreams of the near future.
- Fears. (Method & Discipline). What you fear about yourself or your environments currently. What you need to work on improving.
Your outcome is determined by reading all the cards, much like a sentence. Or paragraph, I guess. Yes, I took the names right out of Sun Tzu’s Art of War — in keeping with the theme, of course. But it makes total sense to me somehow.
- Dragon: These noble creatures appear throughout Chinese culture and represent the Emperor of China. They are powerful, majestic, eccentric creatures and often considered “lucky.”
(+) Male, ambition, risk-taker, dominant, always climbing/flying upward, lucky, powerful, eccentric, enjoys the company of people, independent
(-) Egocentric, arrogant, power-hungry, indecisive, taking on too much
- Fenghuang: The Chinese phoenix is the ruler of all birds. It represents the Empress. It has no connection with the Western phoenix but shares similar positive traits. It is considered the pair to the Emperor’s dragon symbol. During times of trouble, it tends to hide away, and during times of peace and prosperity, it appears.
(+) Feminine, elegance, passion, strong will, honesty, confidence, loyalty, goodwill
(-) Impulsive, coming on too strongly, cowardly, offended too easily, overly-temperate, or needs to be more aggressive
- Snake: Many tales are told about snakes all over the world, most are thought to be conniving and evil, but others are thought to be powerful deities. They embody the femininity and seduction of the woman — this is different from the femininity of the phoenix, whereas one has much more of aristocratic-like feminity. The snake to me represents the raw female that society teaches is bad to indulge in. I am not sure if I agree about that. But Nü Wa is a half-woman, half-snake deity who is the creator of the world according to the Mao tribe. That is to say, not all snakes are here to make you eat a certain fruit from a certain tree.
(+) Intelligent, graceful, resourceful, seductive, intuitive, sensitive
(-) Sly, manipulating, materialistic/ism, tempted, selfish, not thinking about others
- Tiger: The King of all beasts is another power animal that is the rival to the Dragon. These agile creatures loves challenges. It is easy to say that they are wild and feral, and running toward things at full speed. The white tiger is thought to symbolize wisdom in Chinese culture.
(+) Brave, sportsman/competitive, unpredictable, agility, strength, commander, coach, engaging, confident
(-) Too aggressive (learn to back down), [need to] slow down, feral, untamed, suspicious, untrusting
- Turtle: Turtle, in many Asian tales and myths, represents longevity. They live for many years, some even longer than humans, and thus, aquire much wisdom and sagehood. They are also guardians, or gateway animals that give people guidance. These creatures are also one of four animals that possess “spirit” according to the “Book of ceremonies.”
(+) Easygoing, patient, pensive, wise, critical thinker, peaceful, going with the flow, steadfast, sturdy, stable, power
(-) Too slow, need to get out more (stop hiding in your shell), not thinking enough, wishy-washy, childish

Do we choose our favorite animal, or our favorite picture?
Hmm… truthfully, I can’t give an accurate reading based off of a favorite picture because there are just too many signs in it and too many ways to read it, so for now, it is picking your favorite animal.
Did you paint these?
Yes, I did.
Phoenix, Snake, Tiger, Dragon, Turtle.
I had a hard time choosing between Phoenix and Snake, but ultimately decided with that order.
Upon looking that the positive/negative meanings, I think they are very accurate according to who I am right now at this moment.
I realize that I should take this with a grain of salt as the interpretations are kinda suggestive, but so are my choices in that if I looked at this another day, I probably would have gone Snake/Tiger/Phoenix/Dragon/Turtle.
Some readings can be rather arbitrary, and the readings themselves don’t all apply to one person, and can be as general as a tarot reading.
Actually, I can totally see you like this. Sometimes our thoughts “feel” things that cannot be expressed without words until we name them.
Here is my interpretation and naturally, take it with a grain of salt:
The phoenix could be a characteristic of your feelings for a certain somebody with a “10″ in her name.
The “1″ position is a very happy place for any of the cards to be. With the tiger being in the position that it is, it could very well, relate to you becoming a teacher in the future. This is one of your goals anyway, if it was the phoenix, I would think it is because you want to get connected with others and have stronger ties. For snake, is a representation of your wit and cleverness, and you like challenging the norm, and not so much as tempting others but seeing how they would solve something. Dragon is your motivation, you really want to be successful in the future. He is your ego.
Turtle says you are not somebody who beats around the bush, and you’re not wimpy. What you’re afraid is lack of experience. You don’t like people who hide away because you can’t understand them.
Snake, Phoenix, Dragon, Tiger, Turtle. I don’t really understand what I’m supposed to do with the order? I fear turtle traits that don’t relate to me at all? What?
I’m not sure if that’s my actual favorite order of animals, since when I’m non-plussed about a group of things, they all seem equal to me. I already know the general associations with each animal.
Snake because I identify with it most. I’d say it’s probably most characteristic of my personality out of all the animals. I wouldn’t consider myself graceful, seductive, or materialistic. Nor sensitive really either. Hmm.
Phoenix simply because I admire the mythology of this animal the most. Dragon because they are rad. Tiger’s are pretty spiffy. I don’t get people’s love for turtles (sorry Tannie), haha.
I think out of the traits across all animals, I’d characterize myself as:
Positives: Dominant, eccentric, passionate, honest, confident, intelligent, intuitive.
Negatives: Egocentric, sly, manipulative, selfish, and feral.
I listed the attributes to help you guys along, so I can understand if you’re having trouble interpreting them. Not all traits apply to you, and I couldn’t possibly list everything. Snake was rather hard for me to write up because the nuance regarding snakes is so subtle — the meanings vary greatly. I’d have to write a fucking book. I do not have time for such frivolities…. >_> I’m using intuition and “code” from what I’ve been taught in Semiotics. Most people don’t want to look at the underlying truth of why they pick certain things. But everything we do communicates to the world about who we are inside. Deep? I know. Complicated? Fuck yeah.
I am not surprised you chose the alternative feminine card (snake) because you are not a typical female, nor a conventional person to begin with. I think you’re someone who dances, or in this case glides, to the rhythm of her own music. And you don’t give a fuck about what people think you are, you’re Snake! Your redeeming qualities as a the passionate phoenix makes you want to live life genuinely (of course everybody does too, but if we think about it, not everyone can) and freely with much expression. On the inside, dragon is your inner self, you’re quite independent and strong-willed, but also, good-natured if not a little quirky (don’t we all know this). Tiger is your motivation. You want to take more initiative, and be better at what you do and who you are.
Turtle, in your case, is kind of similar to Donald. I am thinking you don’t want to hide or shield yourself from what other people think.
Dragon, turtle, tiger, pheonix, snake.
LOL, almost the exact opposite of Donald. Note that Donald has all the feminine animals first, while I have masculine first (and feminine last). Hmmmm…
Honestly, though, I only had strong feelings about the first and last one I chose. Dragon was first, since I hail from the Year of the Dragon, while snake was last because poisonous vipers scare the crap out of me. If you go hiking in the Sierras and encounter a rattlesnake, you’ll see what I mean. Also, I can’t imagine many worse ends than death by constriction. I would never own an anaconda.
The middle 3 were all very interchangeable. I could just as easily have gone “Dragon, pheonix, turtle, tiger, snake.”
I’m not sure how accurate the “paragraph” was, or even how it’s really supposed to be put together. But I definitely fear snakes (actually, only the ones that can kill you. Garter snakes are A-OK).
You have a fear of snakes? That’s interesting. I’ll be sure to buy you a pet snake for christmas… :] But since dragon and snake are strong, I will interpret those first, and your first choices.
Of course you’re a dragon, I think you take a lot of initiation, Alan. You are a good leader, you don’t mind taking the lead either. It’s so obvious. What you don’t like are sly muthafuckers who drag others down or are selfish, and become liabilities to any causes you believe in, and what we don’t like, we fear in ourselves.
Turtle is a good strength to have since you are a fairly, intelligent, and deep thinker. Your goal is to learn as much as you can. If tiger is what you are really like on the inside, you are a person who always ready to accept a challenge or goes for what he wants. And I know, you’re a very intense person.
What really motivates you is a passion for graceful things whether it is material or something else about life, but phoenix in some cases here, represents the finer qualities of life.
I don’t have an IRRATIONAL fear of snakes. I actually think they’re pretty cool, and admire them in some respects. But a snake will NEVER be your friend–if it’s hanging around, it’s because you’ve imprisoned it or you’re feeding it. As soon as you stop fulfilling its needs, you become expendable in the snake’s eyes.
And if that snake manufactures neurotoxins that turn your brain into goo, or if that snake could squeeze you to death and then swallow you whole… yeah, then they scare me.
P.S. Thanks for the reading. Seems to describe me fairly well (or at least, the person I’d like to be). Then again, you know me fairly well–does it work for somebody you know nothing about?
Also, I’m pretty positive that the artwork influenced my decision.
I figured that might be the case, this was brought up to me when I first made it and showed it to my roommates. But I did draw these images with intention. There are messages in my artwork that people are supposed to pick up subtly in their mind. It’s full of codes. But I was worried that picking an image based on a “favorite” image instead of an animal would make people pick only the most beautiful graceful one. Because I could say, “I had the most fun drawing the fenghuang because it has so much rhythm and flow in it, but snake on the other hand is a “so-so” painting.” Other people could think this way too. But I’m not surprised, I would rather people pick something that calls out to them the most.
@Tannie: Thank you Tannie! Although this order best describes me at this moment, I believe it also accurately describes me overall. Not 100% of the time though, because our lives dynamically change too.
@Alan: Read the snake one Alan. And watch the video.

And yes Alan, I am very androgynous because I possess both masculine AND feminine traits!
http://www.personaldna.com/report.php?k=uiiyuuvoTZJnIeP-OO-DDAAD-96fa&u=958fb7491da5
^ That is the results of a personality test I took, and I believe this test is AMAZINGLY accurate for the 13/14 people who have taken it and shared me their results (the only 1 that wasnt accurate, is a liar)
It takes less than 10 minutes, unless you really dont know yourself (and if you dont, then all the more reason to take this test!)
I am interested in seeing your guys’ results; if you decide to take it, please post it here (i have a list of results saved up. Iono, i guess I like this sorta thing?)

Hm. It’s actually pretty accurate (at least as I perceive myself). Their questions were very thorough, so I’m not terribly surprised.
http://www.personaldna.com/report.php?k=riNDmvsIhVHZjik-HC-DCAAE-a4ff&u=7189af990081
This is probably the most accurate personality test I’ve taken.
It’s interesting to see that you guys placed more femininely than me, but I’m still less masculine. Paradoxical as it may sound, I think that’s a pretty accurate assessment. (You possess qualities of both, while I’m a bit more a-gendered).
I’d say that the only inaccurate thing is the call for me to appreciate beauty in form more (I think it means function), since I’m hardly a ‘romantic’ artist. I’ve been reading Gödel, Escher, Bach and have spent an entire day playing with Conway’s game of life. I view artistic design and formal systems as part of the same structure and consider it quite a beautiful one!
*Funfact: If you subtracted ALL of Alan’s Empathy from Donald and put it into a person, that person will be 6 times more empathetic than I am. It’s probably my high faith and understanding in other people that’s preventing me from being a complete sociopath.
@Susie: Well, you have a 30 in Functional and a 70 in Aesthetic, but you did score a 50/50 split in Earthy/Imaginative.
My interpretation of their definition of Earthy/Imaginative is a representation of Functional.
http://www.personaldna.com/glossary.php
=So in other words, you care more for aesthetics than functionality. But when you DO look at functionality, you are split halfway in between the Abstract/Theoretical aspects and Deatiled/Practical sides.
Oh and empathy is indirectly tied to femininity. Thats a possible explanation~
Another note: He are my results from 11/2008, exactly 3 years ago.
http://www.personaldna.com/report.php?u=f5001873e125
=When comparing 11/2008 to 11/2011, I found it quite interesting how some values stayed EXACTLY the same.
-(Because the test used sliders to gauge values, I assumed that a difference in merely one pixel would skew the results by a value of 1. But apparently the algorithm used to calculate these results are more complex than that)
The traits that represent my personality stayed more or less the same:
-Confidence, Extroversion, Empathy, and Femininty stayed at exactly the same values
-Masculinity should have too… the mild increase is a lie! im a part of the 88 club like you two too! (I attest the new result to statistical variation)
Things related to my values or lifestyle have changed here and there:
-Openness went down because I became less open-minded toward new things, because I’ve discovered my niche of comfort and stability.
-Trust in others went up through experience; Ive discovered that people deserve the benefit of the doubt. “Tie goes to the runner” in a way.
-Agency went up because I am at the age where I need to grasp a tighter hold of my future.
-Spontaneity went down because I have less free time (due to agency)
-The final four terms, I deem less important
=This kinda goes to show how accurate this test really is! (Or how much value I really like this test =S)
=Oh and thanks for participating! I hope it was somewhat insightful in some way =]
I didn’t know you were so big on fashion Donald, hahaha.
@Alan — it really did help that I knew you guys, but really, I don’t know you guys THAT well. I spend pretty much only about a week every year with you guys, some more than others since the end of high school (and I didn’t even hang out with everyone all that much back then either). I base what I said off what you guys picked, what I observed over the years, and the meaning of signs, and then i put it all together.
